The PIA Symposium, the biggest trade show in the skydiving industry begins on February 4th 2019 in Dallas, Texas - here's five great reasons you should make the trip!
Learning never goes out of style, especially in our industry. Advances in technology and techniques used for skydiver instruction have brought about a new era in skydiving where safety is at an all-time high. Keeping up with the most recent innovations benefits skydivers and their home drop zones alike. This makes attending a seminar at PIA a must do. The 2019 PIA Symposium is a great time to take advantage of some of the best and brightest in our industry—like Bill Booth. Imagine being able to attend a seminar held by the inventor and engineer responsible for the 3-ring release—a device that has enhanced skydiving safety three-fold. Well, this is a reality at the 2019 PIA Symposium, and Mr. Booth isn’t the only legend that prepares seminars for the PIA symposium. Technical discussions dealing with skydiving and government interactions, rigging, management and student instruction are also offered. Really, it’s a shame not to take the opportunity to glean all the information you can from these brilliant skydiving minds.
Gear in skydiving is consistently improving, and skydiving manufacturers are striving to outdo themselves year after year. Another must do for the 2019 PIA Symposium is checking out what developments have been made by equipment manufacturers in the last few years. Improvements tend to occur in two key areas: comfort and safety. These are aspects all skydivers and skydiving affiliates can relate to. From Virtual Reality technology to containers with memory-foam leg pads, PIA Symposium is your opportunity to see what is up and coming with active skydiving equipment and training equipment as well.
PIA is a star magnet, and the 2019 PIA Symposium is one of the only spots where you can interact with skydiving heroes like: Melissa Nelson Lowe, Roberta Mancino, Melanie Curtis, and even Luke Aikins. During the 2019 PIA Symposium, these greats will be out and about and ready to mingle. Although, there’s no real need to be star struck. These guys and gals are down to earth, and like all of us in the industry, they all started with one jump. But, don’t take our word for it, come meet them first hand at the 2019 PIA Symposium.
You don’t come to PIA to sit whiling away the hours in your hotel room. A great way to decompress from all the learning you’ll do is to spend a few hours in Exhibition Hall chatting with manufacturers and skydivers from all over the globe. Plus, who doesn’t like free stuff? In the Exhibition Hall, wind your way through booth after booth of equipment manufacturers and associated skydiving companies and grab some pretty sweet swag to boot.
While we can guarantee you won’t want to leave, one of the must do things at the 2019 PIA Symposium is attending the closing banquet reception and dinner. Enjoy some top-notch grub and the company of friends old and new. This definitely isn’t another ‘stuffy dinner.’ As you share the highlights of your week with your table mates, it’s hard not to feel thankful to be part of such a unique and supportive community. You definitely want to be sure you catch the event guest speaker. The 2017 PIA Symposium closing banquet guest speaker, Dilys Price, left us brimming with inspiration—just enough to carry us through to this year for the guest speaker of the 2019 PIA Symposium!
While there’s loads more to see and do at PIA, these were our top 5 must do suggestions. Don’t just leave it at this and take our word for it, be sure to register and attend the 2019 PIA Symposium.
