Thoughts on the battle for the World Cup, just round the corner!

This summer a UFO unfolded at Empuriabrava – what was the Unidentified Flying Object? The Burning Spring!
Having participated in the Burning Man, an artistic / social experience that takes place in Nevada every year at the end of the summer, I was inevitably seduced when Aldo, the mastermind, Cathy and Steph from the Team Babylon, invited me to be part of the team of Load Organisers of their version of the event.
an offbeat, original, and deeply enthralling event
The Burning Man is based on a series of ten principles that the boogie organizers have been inspired by: openness to all, encouragement of artistic creation and participation, renunciation of the ego, radical personal expression. .. Transposed into a skydiving universe, this gives an offbeat, original, and deeply enthralling event.
The Babylon team invested an incredible amount of effort in organizing the event, transforming a portion of the dz into a village, organized around the “Man”, a wooden figure about 10 meters high, which will be burnt at the closing night. A camping corner, an exhibitor's village with Cookie, Vector, PD, NZ Aerosport, Sife and Cypres, the Giconi bus fully painted in shimmering colors, a fire truck with a smoke and flamethrower, huge crates full of costumes for all to use, famous DJs and graffeurs present all week, thanks to Aldo’s connections … Never have I seen as much effort put into creating a space and a universe for a Skydiving event!
Never have I seen as much effort put into creating a space and a universe for a Skydiving event!
Jumping wise, there also the event stood out. First the line up of coaches. An avalanche of legends, Freefly precursors: Olaf Zipser, Nils Predstrup, Ippo Fabbi, Stephane Fardel, Will Penny, Martin Solowiej, Josh O'Donoghue, Aldo Comas and Babylon's promising young recruits Mickael Lamy and Noe Pottier, and Pete Allum for the relative work and more… Each one brings a particular style, spirit and skills, united by their love of the art of human body flying and their desire to transmit.
Also by the mentality of the event , with a willingness to privilege the “Boogie”, spirit as opposed to the “skills camp”. The idea animating that week was indeed FUN, with a little touch of madness, where everyone could make jumps within the limits of their skills, without necessarily seeking performance, but rather sharing.
Lots of Tube jumps, including a particularly enormous one: “Mister Tube” kindly lent by Alex from Pamier, smoke jumps, costumes, formation loads jumps…
I leave Empuria with the impression of a week out of the ordinary, different, relaxed and original. Rendez-vous is taken for next year, from the 2nd to 9th June 2018 !!!

“To wake up to the views of a 10 meters high Wooden Man planted at the end of the runway…Empuriabrava DZ’s first camping site in 35 years of history. To have 20 participants that never skydived. To see 200 guys with weird clothes jumping from planes. To host a final party for 500 people. To make people understand the essence of this sport. To see our “Burners” go from doubt to fun. From questioning to answering. From just being to existing…. To reunite the old school skydiving with the new generations. To see Clemens building the “temple camp” and everyone rushing to help him. To see the British crew dressed as cheerleaders dancing to fire. To hear the “Boogaloo Camp” push the beat. To live alongside Papa Smurf and the “Burning Spin Camp”. To meet people from 20 different countries. To jump with multiple levels and mix them up. To party every single night (with reason) and jump every simple day. To see flames , lights , caravans, art cars and to be reminded of the real Burning Man. To feel it….“
