Skydive SAFETY – The CRUX
Dan's Dan's Thought for the Day...
Type T is a book about his life on the edge. It includes descriptions of displays, world record stacks, intentional wraps for filming, early BASE jumps, double mal, mid-air rescue, 300' opening and much more. Andy's editor made the comment, “How the HELL are you still alive?!“
5 out of 5 stars
I have known Andy Guest for almost 30 years, and have heard the outline of many of the things he reveals in this fascinating book, but his natural modesty and reserve means he seldom says much about the details of his adventures and achievements. During his time doing security work in Afghanistan in the early 2000s he would sometimes send emails to many of his friends with text and picture attachments of his latest activities. I think writing these experiences and attaching pictures to email his friends was a way he spent some of his free time whilst away from home in often hostile environments.
These brief reports from Andy whetted everybody’s appetite to know more. Then he joined Facebook and his posts about maritime adventures in pirate-infested seas lead to a clamour from his friends to just get on and write a book. This is that book and a thumping good read it is too. It is an essential read for any skydiver and any BASE jumper. It is also a gripping read for anybody else who is interested in autobiographies, adventure, military things or just to understand how human people make superhuman efforts to overcome fear.
Autobiographies do not have to be by famous celebrities, footballers, pop stars, film stars but Andy is, in his own way, a quiet unassuming celebrity in the skydiving world. The book lacks any illustrations but this is made up for by over 200 pictures available on a dedicated website, the url is in the book.
I would commend this book especially to younger people. It should inspire them to take life by the horns and get out and enjoy the adventures that life can offer.
