Tip Tuesday: Landing Patterns
Heading to a new DZ? Here are a few tools from Flight-1's Justin Price to help you scope it out before you even get there...
Apex BASE has developed a new way of creating BASE gear, to reduce wait times and the price…
A lot of time, energy, and resources go into offering tailor-made and built-to-order products. Following in the footsteps of Henry Ford's famous “Model T” Apex BASE has developed a system to build 'Rook' canopy and container systems in bulk, limiting customization to make production more efficient and the end cost to customers lower.
Rook containers are built on the Apex BASE Summit container platform. While a few of the “extras” have been removed the Rook retains the Apex feel and function.
Similarly Rook canopies are built on the FLiK II platform in 0-3 cfm (F-111) fabric and using different load tape material. Rook canopies will not include a Multi-2 Tail Pocket Support System but other standard Apex canopy features are included.
To create stock inventory Rooks are built in runs of 3 or more when there is capacity in the production queue. If Rook systems are out of stock you can be added to the wait list. Once 3 systems are on the wait list all systems will be moved into production simultaneously.
Jumpers can submit group orders of 3+ Rook systems to move directly into production and skip any wait list.
Rook containers are all black with a colored Rook logo embroidered to match the center cell of the canopy. Rook canopies will be all black with a colored center cell matching the container embroidery.
Rooks will be produced in popular sizes (currently available in: 240, 260, and 280) and with popular accent colors (e.g. blue, red, green, yellow, etc.).
Customers who are added to the wait list will be able to specify canopy size and accent color. Stock Rook containers are built with open harnesses, meaning they are finished to fit exact measurements. The lead time on an in-stock Rook is 1-2 weeks while Apex closes your harness. Lead times on Rook systems that have not yet entered production will more closely match the lead times of custom gear, which can vary.
