When the days are at their longest and the heat is at its peak Skydive Perris draws the faithful to the Power Play mystique… We were fifty-something strong this year in hundred-plus degrees Perspiration, inspiration: there’s just none like Dan BC’s!
Dan’s emphatic safety briefing never could be overstated… Then he welcomed us with arms flung wide, and cried, “Please stay hydrated!” Soon the creeper pad was crawling as the fresh-faced and the grizzled Laid formations down, grips taken, flesh like bacon as we sizzled!
True to Power Play tradition, first three days the churning Skyvan Was a furnace for our smoking 16-20-ways! Each dive an Innovative blend of bipoles, cats, compressed…you’ve never been a Fan of all-outfacing slots? Don’t tell Doug Forth or Chris Farina!
After three long days, all drooping from that unforgiving oven, It was time for some regrouping—here’s to laughing, living, loving! Nineteen members of the wedding party suited up in red Then a radiant bride emerged, white jumpsuit, veil upon her head…
We hummed the Wedding March; among the boarding area’s pews Celine and George exchanged their vows—but had to wait for their “I do”s! First, we walked the wedding dive, so slow and solemn, by the mockup… Each one thinking, ‘Let me not go low, God please don’t let me f— up!’
Such excruciating pressure, mixed with levity and gravity… (The Reverend Chris allowed one note of skydiver depravity: Just after his pronouncement of the marriage bond at altitude, The chant “Them! Them!…” could not be stifled—no one felt it rude.)
A round of sparkling cider; jump run – green light – out the plane The divers poured, one shot to get this right, pick up the bridal train! And the final grip connected just in time, the heart’s complete! Every heart was melted in that moment; one electric beat.
…Upon their kiss, we tracked away, renewed and reinforced; Deployed with faith we’ll be OK, for better or for worst. The bride alighted, still adorned with roses, in the grass And the best man, piloting our Skyvan, did a fly-by pass.
The champagne flowed that night! A toast to every hand we take As lovers in a sport in which we know just what’s at stake. (And oh, that bouquet landing in my hands made Mario quake!) The next day, every 60-way was icing on the cake.
This Power Play of Love reminds us why we make these trips And why we must be patient, wait … to take those perfect grips.
Addendum – The Bachelorette Party
I wanted to make mention of the brave “exotic dancers” Who graced us with their talents, but I’d need too many stanzas To give those sexy men their due, and so I’m forced to edit. There’s no video, but it happened, and we girls are much indebted.
