Gizmo Heaven!

Dekunu tracking direction analysis
Dekunu Swoop visualisation

The latest skydiving gadget has to be seen to be believed! Imagine your alti has GPS tracking, a neat touchscreen, wireless data sync, landing pattern visualisation, jump path mapping, live ground speed/heading on jump run, and glide ratio under canopy. Dekunu Technologies soon-to-be-released SmartAlti is a device with all those features and more…

The folks at the Aussie skydiving startup say “it’s a super exciting, game-changing development for the sport”. For sure this device will increase awareness, knowledge and safety for its owners. There are some really fun features, like multiplayer games on the ride to altitude! Handy reminders are included, like reserve due dates and gear-up call notifications. What makes it really mind-blowing though is what happens beyond the devices. The information, visualisations, and automated analysis, that’s their secret sauce.

Prototype 10 is being manufactured now, and will be sent out to 40 Dekunu ambassadors/beta test jumpers around the world later this month. The word on the street says version 11 will be the final product, with pre-orders expected to go live in August.

Dekunu launched the idea of the SmartAlti at Funny Farm in Australia in April, where there were 80 Protoype 9 devices for all participants to try out. Versions 1 to 8 have been developed from November 2016, starting by strapping prototypes to a drone to track their flight path.

Brent Chandler – Chief Nerd, Shredder and Founder – says the company has a comprehensive road map that stretches long into the future. “Sinking our teeth into this project has been both exciting and eye-opening. The definition of success with Dekunu has never been just about selling devices but rather creating a platform that allows the sport to be safer, for jumpers to progress faster and to be more engaging. Through rapid prototyping, building a team of passionate rockstars and having a bullshit-free attitude we are committing to creating devices that amaze. By totally overengineering this device we're able to do extraordinary things.”

New features are being announced daily on the Dekunu Facebook page, but other specifics about the device are still hush-hush.
