Vector Festival came back bigger and better in 2018! The event was held at Skydive Pink Klatovy, home of skyvans, a swimming pool, hot air balloons, a sauna and the infamous circus tent.
The event somehow started with 23 load organizers and finished with 26 (if that's not better… we don't know what is). In fact, overheard at the event:
I don't understand how there are any other events happening right now... surely all the load organizers are here
Vector Festival takes place every two years and is a way for UPT, Performance Designs and Vigil to give back to the European skydiving community. This year there were 395 participants attending the boogie with 40 of those people attending an initiation day as it was their first big event. This allowed them to spend time jumping with a few load organizers, get comfortable with the dropzone and get some jumps in so that they could hit the ground running on day one.
As per usual, the vendor village was PACKED with all the best vendors around. For the vendor village party, there was an intense game of dodgeball (if you see Rene Tergsten from ToraTora you should definitely ask him about it), free beer (yes, free), snacks at the tents and of course the chance to catch up and chat with all the vendors about their new products.
The first three days of the event the weather was fantastic, but towards the end, there were a few spots of bad weather. This allowed for some of the more festival-like shenanigans to take place. Irish Pete was on hand to keep the shenanigans rolling and pulled together some of the best skits ever seen at a boogie (do yourself a favor and and check out the ‘What Shannon Wouldn't Say’ video on Vector Festival Facebook page). There were some excellent seminars from Shannon Pilcher (Flight-1), Sharon Har Noy (JoyRiders), Hans from PD and a sit down with the LOs to ask them anything (yes, anything) took place during the weather holds.
Shannon Pilcher from Flight-1 gave the participants daily briefings on patterns, winds, advice, techniques and ran one of the most well-attended seminars during the festival. Another new addition this year was Axel Arvidsson who was on hand to help organize the organizers and provide a place for jumpers to check in, and get in on their desired loads.
Vector Festival wouldn't be Vector Festival without all the awesome music, parties, and SWAG! Some highlights include the always spectacular The PeteBox (who also performed a duet with organizer Anna Moxnes that brought the house down), Robert Carl Blank, and at the ToraTora Party; Tha Trickaz, The Minners, Broken Bungee Beat Machine and Willem De Groot.
During the event, when the air horn sounded, participants (and let's be honest, organizers) had 30 seconds to get into a photo to claim their free beer. There were 1000 free beers given away. Let's just say there were accidents, tears, serious LOLs, and some beer ticket hoarders (we’re looking at you Ciru Ciru Ferrera).
Along with all of that, there was a free Vector given away, another one at 50% for the winner of the video contest and ALL the PD Swag. Over the event there were 200+ loads and over 4,500 jumps and probably around 2,000 plus hangovers.
So, see you there in 2020?
