Red Bull's Top Five Aerial Athletes
Skydive Dubai has set a new World Record by Base Jumping from the top of Burj Khalifa, the World’s Tallest Building. It is Skydive Dubai's second Guinness World Record in less than a month. Ernesto Gainza recently jumped the world’s smallest canopy, now Fred Fugen and Vince Reffet BASE jumped the world’s tallest building.
Skydive Dubai sponsored Soul Flyers Fred and Vince leapt off the very tip of The Burj Khalifa, 828 meters tall, on Monday 21st April 2014. Skydive Dubai now claims a new Guinness World Record of the Highest Building BASE Jump. (Although, it is not the world’s highest BASE jump as some media has claimed, as higher cliffs have been jumped.)
The jump from The Burj Khalifa was only possible with the construction of a 3 x 1 meter platform at the very top of the pinnacle, an immense task in itself. The structure, recently spotted by residents and tourists, took 3 days to install, with challenges faced due to weather constrictions.
The jumps Fred and Vincent made were spectacular, a superb showcase for skydiving and made the most of the jump’s potential. In one they wore wingsuits and carved around the tower in a corkscrew motion. In another they wore tracking suits and ended up spinning head-down next to the building – respect! The world’s media are high on the excitement of the highest Base jump but most have no idea how incredible are the skills of the well-named Soul Flyers.
It was the jump of a lifetime, an achievement from many many years of hard training and competing and being friends... A dream come true!
To build up to the jump, Fred and Vince recently made many BASE training jumps in Lauterbrunen, Switzerland, where they practiced freefly, acrobatics and carving round each other in low speed air. Then the Soul Flyers did many helicopter jumps over Dubai, also to train in low airspeed. [It must have been hell guys!]
Skydive Dubai, one of the world’s premier skydiving locations, has firmly established itself as a center of sporting excellence, producing superb athletes, World Champions and setting new World Records. Skydive Dubai and The Burj Khalifa are symbols of Dubai’s exceptional growth over the past 30 years as well as outstanding human talent and inspiration. So too are the Soul Flyers, congratulations to everyone involved – we can’t wait to see what your collaboration achieves next!
