It\u2019s unusually cold for August in Czech Republic. Competitors have been trying to train for the week prior to the competition, amid cold, rain, mist and cloud. It looks as though the comp will be a mental game, with teams trying to keep their nerve and fly at their best through long waits, canceled calls, go-arounds and squeezing in the odd jump here and there, without being able to get into a rhythm.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<h2>Management<\/h2>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Running their fourth IPC event, the management of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dropzoneprostejov.com\">Prostejov DZ<\/a>, assisted by Bryan Burke, safety officer of Skydive Arizona, are well used to making the most of the weather windows. They briefed teams to be ready to take short calls but not to be afraid of going around or bringing the aircraft down if the cloud cover is unsuitable when they are at altitude. Every Head of Delegation has been issued with a mobile phone, with which to receive messages from DZ control regarding the calls.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.skydivemag.com\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/\/6a8fdee0-261d-4583-96fb-71539748fdd0.jpeg\"><\/p>\n<h1>Monday 25 August<\/h1>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Monday 25 August, the practice day was blessed with lovely blue skies and sunshine, (almost) everyone completed at least one training jump and most teams tried to squeeze in a couple more. The atmosphere is excellent with competitors from 25 different nations assembling for the bi-yearly meet, and enjoying the reunion with their adversaries and friends from all over the world.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Opening ceremony\" src=\"https:\/\/www.skydivemag.com\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/\/b51c7a5b-27d0-4e9b-80ef-8ae5fdf82a45.jpg\"><\/p>\n<h2>Opening Ceremony<\/h2>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>The opening ceremony included dignitaries such as the local mayor, Martin Dlouhy the vibrant manager of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dropzoneprostejov.com\">Prostejov DZ<\/a>, IPC president Graeme Windsor, delegations from the competing countries, and 5 cheerleaders kicking off Championships. Martin\u2019s opening speech included a tribute to the previous host <a href=\"www.skydivedubai.ae\">Skydive Dubai<\/a>, saying it was a hard act to follow\u2026 but the drop zone would do its best to compensate in friendliness and welcome for any relative lack of luxury. <\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Having said that, Martin is very good at attracting appropriate sponsorship and hence the DZ is covered with high quality TVs, supplied by Sharp. There are about 25 sponsoring organisations, including the Czech Republic wind tunnel <a href=\"http:\/\/www.skydivearena.cz\/en\">Skydive Arena<\/a>, T-Mobile, Porsche, and more, listed at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wpc2014.com\/en\/partners.php\">Partners page of the world meet website<\/a><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"VFS draw wpc2014\" src=\"https:\/\/www.skydivemag.com\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/\/0b120164-63b7-48eb-a431-20f139abb0b1.jpg\"><br \/><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"4way, 4-way female and 8-way FS draw\" src=\"https:\/\/www.skydivemag.com\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/\/7dced18f-dd19-4488-9ed6-750b67287623.jpeg\"><\/p>\n<h2>The Draw<\/h2>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Following the opening ceremony separate draws were made for FS, VFS and artistic events (shown by the photos) and multiple orgies of dirt diving began, some in hotel lobbies, much to the surprise of \u2018normal\u2019 guests. For the first time that anyone can remember the 4-way and 8-way FS will use an identical draw, a logical idea leaving many wondering why this hadn\u2019t been tried before. <\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<h2>Omniskore<\/h2>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>The scoring system will be our old friend <a href=\"http:\/\/www.omniskore.com\">Omniskore<\/a>, used in the last 2 years\u2019 World Cups but not at an FS World Championships since 2004.
