In 2011, I gained altitude in a wingsuit. I was flying the original TonySuit X-Bird, my favorite suit back then. Video showed it, GPS proved it. The gain was minimal, 50-60 feet, but it was a gain.<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

At the time, many people didn’t believe it was possible. Wingsuit factory team pilots, wingsuit instructors, and self-proclaimed ws experts of all descriptions flatly stated that it was not possible to go up in a wingsuit. Video, GPS tracks, any evidence was faked, they said.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Since then, we’ve seen more and more of it. Jhonny Florez posted video and photos showing him gain quite a bit, and he even did a slider-down wingsuit BASE deployment at the top of one flare which was pretty cool. Six or seven years is an eternity in wingsuit development.<\/p>\n

We’ve been talking about this concept for a long time – the idea of filming wingsuits going up. Buzzing a marker of some kind, booting it as hard as we could, and capturing it all on camera. Before Squirrel existed, fun ideas were mostly fantasies. We would talk about how fun it would be to [fill in the blank<\/em>]. If only we had [cash money<\/em>] to do [whatever<\/em>], that would be so awesome. Now, we could buy ourselves fancy cars, but it’s more fun turning these ideas into reality. It’s the best part of our job.<\/p>\n
