{"id":17692,"date":"2017-05-02T23:00:00","date_gmt":"2017-05-02T23:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/skydivemag.com\/new\/?p=17692"},"modified":"2017-05-02T23:00:00","modified_gmt":"2017-05-02T23:00:00","slug":"2017-05-03-lost-city-first-base-bymiles-daisher","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.skydivemag.com\/new\/2017-05-03-lost-city-first-base-bymiles-daisher\/","title":{"rendered":"Lost City First BASE by\u00a0Miles Daisher"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Miles Daisher celebrates BASE jump 4,300 by doing the first BASE jump in the iconic location Petra<\/h3>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Miles Daisher embracing first BASE at Petra\" src=\"https:\/\/www.skydivemag.com\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/\/f14c555b-2af4-43cc-8fd1-b45d3b5f3fcc.jpeg\"><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.redbullcontentpool.com\/search\/person\/Red%20Bull%20Air%20Force?layout=advanced\"><strong>Red Bull Air Force<\/strong><\/a> <strong>Team member<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.redbullcontentpool.com\/search\/person\/Miles%20Daisher?layout=advanced\"><strong>Miles Daisher<\/strong><\/a> <strong>chose Petra, one of the Wonders of the World, as the stunning location to celebrate his 4,300rd BASE jump and make history<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>The American legend, who has completed 7,200 skydives as well, travelled to Jordan intent on becoming the first to BASE jump Petra with its incredible scenery at the UNESCO World Heritage site.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Miles Daisher  jumps Petra, Jordan\" src=\"https:\/\/www.skydivemag.com\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/\/ad9debe7-4af9-41ca-b942-09bd0fc8238b.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>Thankfully for the Georgia native, the weather obliged to help make his BASE jump from the top of The Treasury in the depth of the Lost City that extra bit special.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>The iconic Treasury dates back to first century BC and is perfectly hidden beneath high reaching mountains in the South of the Jordanian desert, positioned at the end of a main narrow route that no cars can access.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.skydivemag.com\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/\/715a9580-a6b0-43f4-8a24-3a1fc9826e38.jpeg\"><\/p>\n<p>Carved deep into a rose rock face and concealed in a high-walled ellipse of a valley, both the Bedouins and the mountains of Petra have protected it from wind and rain.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Setting up his early morning gear inside an opening of the mountain over The Treasury, Miles waited for the right wind direction and speed for the jump, with the help of his teammate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.redbullcontentpool.com\/search\/person\/Andy%20Farrington?layout=advanced\">Andy Farrington<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.skydivemag.com\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/\/95a42f3f-c73c-4d99-9a6b-b4d212477b7d.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>With no tourists in sight and the light yet to reach the top, Andy leaned over the edge on a rope and prepared to PCA assist Miles.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Once they were happy with the conditions at 7am, Miles then said \u201cSee ya\u201d to Andy and BASE jumped &#8211; a leap of faith that Indiana Jones would have been proud of.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.skydivemag.com\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/\/9c0f1954-f4c9-4e1e-b6ac-bcc0551d88e6.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>After spiralling across the 100-feet wide space between the valley and The Treasury, he landed perfectly right in front of the doorway in less than 15 seconds \u2013 the lowest BASE jump he&#8217;d ever done over land!<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>The extreme challenge for Miles was in the low altitude of the jump along with the incredibly tight space that left him with little room to land between the limestone mountains.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.skydivemag.com\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/\/3a7f5eae-1296-49e3-b034-92857e10c68e.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>Afterwards, Miles enthused: <em>\u201cMy heart is coming out of my chest.
