Flight-1 instructors Kaz Sheekey<\/strong> and Cara King<\/strong> have launched Chicks Flock<\/em>, a one-of-a-kind canopy discipline camp designed to bring women together under supportive, high-level flying conditions without the need for heavy weight belts. This event isn\u2019t just about technique or performance; it\u2019s about building confidence and elevating canopy skills in an environment where women can truly level up.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

How the Event Came to Life<\/strong>

<\/p><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

KAZ \u2013 \u201cWe wanted to create a space where women could feel comfortable flying at lower wing loadings without having to add uncomfortable amounts of lead. When I competed in canopy piloting, I constantly wore 35 pounds of weight. While I loved the power it created, it was taxing on landings and on your body in general. In flocking, I often wear 15\u201320 pounds, and for one camp it was around 40. That extra load can push people beyond their comfort zone and even introduce unnecessary risk. This event removes that pressure and allows us to focus on flying<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CARA<\/strong> \u2013 \u201cI believe many women have the idea that flocking isn\u2019t accessible to them if they aren\u2019t on a super high-performance wing, or at a high wing loading; neither of which are true. I love the idea of creating space for women to come and safely learn the foundations of flocking on their wing and at their wing loading, without the concern of wearing weight, and seeing that it\u2019s possible for them. Once they experience that, and grow in their skills and confidence, they will be able to enjoy this incredible discipline more often.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Mission Behind It<\/strong>

KAZ<\/strong> \u2013 \u201cThis event is about learning, creating, and pushing our skills in an environment that\u2019s supportive and collaborative. It\u2019s about sharing knowledge, building confidence, and flying together at a high level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CARA<\/strong> \u2013 \u201cFlocking makes better canopy pilots by learning the full range of their wing while flying relative to other pilots. It also happens to be insanely fun with some of the most beautiful visuals you can have while skydiving. We are excited to share our experience in the discipline to help others create more enjoyment and skill under canopy.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Bigger Picture<\/strong>

<\/p><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

KAZ<\/strong> \u2013 \u201cWomen make up only a small percentage of skydiving overall, and an even smaller percentage take part in flocking camps. This event opens the door to a comfortable setting where more women can explore this discipline and discover what\u2019s possible.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CARA<\/strong> \u2013 \u201cWe are so delighted to report that we have women joining us for this special event from across the world. There are participants coming from Spain, England, Canada, and all across the US! That is so validating that women are waiting on the sidelines eager to learn how to flock. This event was the right moment for them to feel safe and welcome to step into the game. What an honor!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Looking Ahead<\/strong>

<\/p><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

At the time of this writing, we have 2 slots remaining. One in the Medium WL group of 1.4\u20131.8 and one in the Heavy WL group of 1.8\u20132.2+.
This event is meant to be the first of many future female flocking camps led by Flight-1. There is much more in the works. The future is flocking and we want women to be a big part of it!
