Dutch Accept Wingsuit RECORDS

Visit Us

Wingsuit flying is a discipline that’s been rising in terms of popularity. Various competitive formats have formed over the years as well, such as those aimed at performance and artistic flying. Performance competitions look at individual achievements regarding speed, duration of the flight and distance. Artistic looks at team accomplishments flying compulsory figures as well free rounds.

The KNVvL Air Sports Commission has deemed the discipline worthy of supporting by instating new national records for performance. Internationally there are no official IPC rules for these records. Yet, the achievements are cataloged clearly and are digitally registered and recorded through Paralog The sports commission has thus recognized the achievements of Jarno Cordia and Martijn Maas during the Benelux Wingsuit Performance Cup 2013 at Texel as National Records for wingsuit performance. You can find the records listed on the KNVvL website.

Jarno Cordia is officially the fastest wingsuit flyer in the Netherlands with 250.45km/h while Martijn Maas claimed the Distance record with 3548 m and the Time record of 86.9 seconds. The sports commission ‘congratulated Jarno and Martijn with these fine results, that are also impressive at an international level’.

This is a significant event as this leads to official recognition of wingsuit flying as a sport. Meaning options for funding and even further professionalisation of the competition circuit.

The KNVvL (Koninklijke Nederlandse Vereniging voor Luchtvaart) is the overall authority for air sports within the Netherlands, roughly equivalent to the British Royal Aero Club.
