Hayabusa

A new event has been added to the wind tunnel calendar.
Windoor in Spain will be hosting its first major competition, with the aim of showcasing the tunnel, for competitors, the audience on site and all those people who tune in worldwide to follow the coverage.

The first Wind Games will be held 17-18 January 2014, at Windoor facility in Empuriabrava. There will be a 4-way Open FS competition, 4-way female, VFS and 2-way Dynamic.

4-way (Open and Female)

Many of the top international teams have already registered, including Airspeed and Hayabusa. The world is thrilled to see a rematch between Airspeed (USA) and Hayabusa (Belgium), who have not met since their epic battle a year ago at the World Championships, Dubai 2012.

Also registered are Gavroche (France), Thunder (Belgium), Monaco and an all-star team of Pete Allum, Ivan Quaddrio from Ex3mo (Italy) and World Champions Martial & Marin Ferré of France. More 4-way teams have confirmed. Windoor has limited the FS Open competition to 10 teams, all are confirmed but some have not returned all paperwork. The idea is to keep this first year small and manageable, with good prize money and inviting teams of a high standard. The 4-way is AAA category only.

For the FS Female both Kaizen (UK National team) and the French National teams are confirmed. Windoor would ideally like a couple more teams in this category and encourages applications, especially from National and high level teams.

Prizes

A cash prize of 8,000 euros is on offer to the winning team in 4-way Open, with 5,000 € for coming second and 3,000 € for third. The winning Female 4-way will receive a purse of 3,000 €, with 2,000 and 1,000 for second and third. In VFS the gold medallists take home 5,000 €, with 3,000 € for silver and 1,000 € for bronze. Finally the 2-way Dynamic has 3,000 € on offer for the winning team, 2,000 € for second and 1,000 € for third. Scoring will be with the In Time scoring system.

VFS

VFS is pretty well attended with current World Champions Team 4 Speed (France), as well as Fly Definition (Poland), Swiss and Belgian Champions and Team Transfert.

2-way Dynamic

The 2 way Dynamic is a new concept. The idea is to provide flyers with a platform to compete and improve their skills in a 2-way format, an easier entry than 4-way Dynamic. Windoor has taken the fun element of head-to-head competition between teams to win rounds but have introduced a division format, to ensure that teams fly at least 5 rounds if 10 teams are registered. In the current 4-way Dynamic meet, teams can be eliminated after only 2 rounds. Adam Mattacola and Josh O’Donoghue will be judging.

Rules

There will be 10 round; 8 compulsories and 2 free. The compulsories are drawn from a pool to make a round with three random moves; first a Snake move, then a Circle/Shuffler, then a Layout move. The winning team completes 4 repeats of this sequence in the fastest time, with a five-second penalty for a bust. The free rounds can be anything the team wishes, and they will score higher for having different routines in their 2 rounds.

The teams will be divided into 2 divisions. Each team flies head-to-head against every other team in their division, resulting in a winner and runner-up for both divisions. The semi-finals will be the winner of each division flying against the runner-up of the other. The two winning teams from the semis meet in the final to decide the overall Wind Games Champions 2014.

Pre-Games Coaching Camp

In preparation for the Games, a star-studded line-up of coaches are on offer for teams and individuals wishing to train the week before, to take advantage of the talent on site. The coaching camp will run from 11-15 January at Windoor. Coaches include Roy Janssen, Dave & Andy Grauwels and Dennis Praet from Hayabusa; Mark Kirkby and Thomas Hughes from Airspeed, Pete Allum from XL, and Martial Ferré and Marin Ferré from France Maubeuge.

Team 4 Speed are offering their services for VFS and 2-way Dynamic coaching. Other coaches are being added. The great thing about this week is that coaches can work in any format from 1 on 1, 3 on 1 or 2 on 2. Mixing and matching coaches from the best in the world is a fantastic opportunity as individuals are only charged for regular coaching costs. There is no registration as everyone is already there for the Wind Games world class competition.
