The Euro Bigway camp will use 3 aircraft formations
Lesley Gale, World Record Organizer
Rai Ahmed, bronze world medallist
Sian Stokes, silver world medallist

Responding to demand, coaches Lesley Gale, Sïan Stokes & Rai Ahmed are running a big-way skills camp, at Skydive Hibaldstow, Friday 8 – Sunday 10 June, from two Turbine G92s and a Super Caravan…

Who’s the camp for?

The camp will include a mixture of experience levels, with everyone encouraged to try every type of slot from base, left and right trail aircraft.

It is suitable for relative beginners, provided they have the basic skills to get out of an aircraft and dock on a 10-way. It is also a great place for big-way veterans to enjoy the fun of formation loads, share their knowledge and get a buzz from the excitement of the newbies. If you’re on the European Women’s Record 2018 – or wannabe – this is the perfect place to gain valuable experience, or to come and strut your stuff in front of some of the selection team. Freeflyers with basic belly skills can also benefit from the camp, as big-way principles are the same whether head-up, head-down or flat.

What does it cover?

  • Big-way etiquette
  • Dirtdiving headspace
  • Base work
  • Floating skills
  • Short, medium and late diving techniques
  • The stadium
  • Approach and dock – the Red Zone
  • Breakoff in staged waves
  • Tracking teams
  • Big-way canopy skills

Jumpers will be encouraged to try slots they have not done before, and given the tools and the brief they need.

Participants will fly from base aircraft, left trail and right trail

Each jump will be videoed and extensively debriefed by world-renowned formation skydiving and record coaches – Lesley, Sïan, Rai, assisted by Plane Captains/Coaches Pete Mather, from UK National team Satori, and Shell Meakins, UK Ladies 8-way team, Brit Chicks. The camp is for both genders.

Almost all jumps will be formation loads, weather permitting. Some lesser experienced skydivers will start in a smaller group but we hope everyone will do 3-aircraft loads by the end of the camp. If the weather doesn’t play, single aircraft loads will be organised, or seminars if grounded.

On the Friday night World Record videos will be shown, with an open ‘question and answer’ session, with a drink on the house to encourage questions! Saturday night will feature a sociable Hog Roast dinner.

What’s the dropzone like?

Skydive Hibaldstow is one of the premier dropzones in the UK, renowned for its slick operation of 4 aircraft at UK Nationals, and for getting people in the air. Its fleet of G92s is active around Europe, its pilots well versed in formation flying. Hibaldstow has a large landing area and beautiful facilities, including a spacious bar/restaurant/day room, bunk house accommodation, sparkling showers, creeper pad, gear room, packing area, etc. It has sister dropzones, also owned by the Swallow Group, at Skydive Spain and Skydive Algarve.

How do I get there?

Skydivers coming from Europe can get an overnight ferry from Zeebrugge or Rotterdam. The organizers can be flexible with start time for those making the journey across the water. 70 participants are registered, from 6 different countries.

How much is it?

The fee for the 3-day event is £75, this includes all coaching, camera, event t-shirt, Friday night drink, Saturday night Hog roast (& veggie option) along with entertainment. There is an Early Bird discount of £10 for registrations before 1 May 2018. Jumps will be at usual Hibaldstow prices.

It is possible to attend the camp for just for the weekend, Saturday and Sunday. There will be a deduction from the fee of £15, making the cost £60 for a 2-day camp, or £50 if registering before 1 May. Experienced big-way flyers are welcome to join for Friday only (£25).

The organisers recommend taking 3 days if possible, to gain the most from the experience.
