Reclaiming Tunnel Culture

Visit Us

iFLY Colorado Springs is breathing life back into the U.S. tunnel scene with a culture that supports athletes, fosters community, and respects the culture of skydiving and flying.

iFLY Colorado Springs has become one of the strongest training tunnels in the country. It hosted the U.S. Indoor Skydiving Nationals in 2022 and 2024, and again in 2025. With winners heading to the world stage, and indoor skydiving being seriously considered for future Olympic Games, this tunnel is earning a reputation for high-level flying and it’s athlete development.

And yet, what really sets it apart is the culture.

In a U.S. tunnel scene that’s seen much of its original spirit stripped away by corporate policy and profit-first decisions, iFLY Colorado Springs feels different. It’s veteran-owned, mission-driven, and you can feel how much it’s rooted in community. Run by three Air Force Academy grads, it was originally built to support cadet airmanship programs — and it still does. But it’s also a thriving hub for pro flyers, passionate coaches, and newcomers who are welcomed in with real care.

Beyond sport, the tunnel supports military freefall training and local STEM programs.

But for skydivers and tunnel flyers, it’s the culture that keeps people coming back: a friendly training center and team that genuinely supports the skydiving community. As a sport flyer, you feel welcome here and encouraged to train, push your skills, and be part of something bigger than your block time. It’s one of the few tunnels in the U.S. that still feels built for this.

I run Tunnel Wellness Retreats here and experience firsthand how this place makes people feel. I caught up with the team to find out what makes it work.

What do you think makes your team so special?

What truly makes our team special is the camaraderie and unwavering support each member brings to the table. We’ve built a culture where everyone pushes each other to improve while celebrating each other’s successes. It’s not just about skill—it’s the way we show up for one another.

We’re also incredibly proud to have some long-standing, highly respected athletes in the sport on our team. Chris Frayer (Lead Instructor/AGM), for example, has been flying for over a decade and continues to inspire with both his technique and mentorship. Chris has also been my partner in building this team from the ground up—we’ve worked together for over 10 years, and his dedication, leadership, and belief in our vision have been foundational to everything we’ve created. Jeffrey “Butters” Martin, a veteran in tunnel flying and coaching, brings not only talent but also a sense of grounded leadership that elevates everyone around him. He also brings a lighthearted and goofy energy that keeps the team laughing and connected, creating a balance that makes our environment both productive and fun. Their experience, passion, and willingness to guide newer flyers has shaped the supportive dynamic we’re known for.

Together, we’re more than just teammates. We’re a family, and that’s what sets us apart.

One thing I felt immediately when I arrived was passion for body flying and passion for people who are passionate about body flying. What’s the secret ingredient(s) to create an atmosphere like that?

We give them ample opportunity to fly!

From day one, our goal has been to create a space where passion is not only welcomed but fueled. We don’t just teach people how to fly, we give them room to explore, push boundaries, and fall in love with the sport on their own terms. Our team is deeply passionate about body flying, and that energy is contagious. But more importantly, we recognize and celebrate that same passion in others. Whether someone is a first-time flyer or a seasoned pro, we make space for their excitement and progression. That’s what creates the atmosphere people feel the moment they walk in: genuine enthusiasm, mutual respect, and a shared love for flying.

You guys support sport tunnel camps in a way unlike most US tunnels – what does this bring to iFly Colorado Springs?

Supporting camps brings energy, progression, and community to our tunnel—and honestly, it’s my favorite part of the business. Camps attract passionate flyers, push our team to grow, and turn the tunnel into a place where people connect, learn, and share their love for flying.

Your staff are incredibly happy and grounded – what advice would you give to business owners about building a team.

Build the kind of environment you’d want to work in. Your employees are your most valuable asset, so treat them that way. Respect them, listen to them, and invest in their growth, not just as employees, but as people. Give them the tools they need, provide solid training, and then empower them with trust and confidence. We lead with trust, keep things fun, and make sure everyone feels valued. When people feel seen and supported, they show up with heart—and that’s what makes a team strong, grounded, and successful. People want to know how much you care long before they care how much you know.

Every time I’m in Colorado Springs for one of my retreats I’m blown away by the access to incredible nature. Top favorite things to recommend to anyone visiting?

We’re not far from some amazing hikes like Garden of the Gods and the Manitou Incline, which are must‑do outdoor experiences for visitors and locals alike. Beyond hiking, the area offers plenty of other entertainment options, including Topgolf and Overdrive for fun, active outings.

Plus, the new Ford Amphitheater, which opened less than a year ago, is right in our backyard and you can often hear the live music from our back deck. It’s a great blend of outdoor adventure and local entertainment all within easy reach of the tunnel.
