Books From Inside the Skydiving Community

We’ve gathered a list of books written by authors from within our sport. Some are powerful stories of survival, some share meaningful lessons learned through skydiving, and others offer real value in practical skills and knowledge. We’ve read a few of these already, and the rest are on our to-read list. If you’re stuck on a holiday gift idea, a book from this list is a solid choice and a nice way to support the community.

Above All Else

By Dan Brodsky-Chenfeld

This book is a memoir by world champion Dan Brodsky-Chenfeld. Dan details his survival of a near-fatal plane crash and the recovery and success in competitive skydiving that followed. Dan offers lessons on overcoming fear and adversity. He speaks to achieving goals through resilience and the power of a positive mindset. This book is great for skydivers and BASE jumpers, but this has an appeal wide enough to interest those not in our sport. 

The Great Book of BASE

For skydivers interested in the gravity and complexity of BASE, this book offers a lot from than any highlight reel ever could. Gerdes breaks down many areas of the sport, from packing to ethics to weather.

One of the most comprehensive books ever written on canopy piloting. Brian Germain breaks down the aerodynamic, physical, and decision-making elements of canopy flight in a way that is detailed, accessible, and practical. This book has shaped generations of canopy pilots and remains a cornerstone of canopy education.
