Ten teams competed in VFS, the largest turnout ever for a VFS competition, whether inside or outside. Surely that in itself proves this competition is needed and wanted. It was drama all the way with exciting finals for all the podium positions.
Russia began the meet stamping a commanding 27 on the board, to nearest rival, France’s 22, looking like the superior team. Slowly but surely France made a massive comeback and the final could barely have been more exciting, they went into it neck and neck with Russia on 177 points, and everything to play for. Russia looked good but the French were on fire! This young team Transfert flew confidently and fast, they were not flying cautiously! It went right down to the wire but the French powered through and won by one point, showing tremendous mental strength, and leaving Russia the silver medal.
The French national team were thrilled to collect their third gold medal this year, this time conquering the indoor podium, following their success at the European Championships and World Cup in Teuge. They really thought they would have the second place because the Russian team were leading for seven rounds and during the very last one the french team (Transfert) won by just one point! Since two weeks ago they have a new team member (Edouard Henri), for this indoor competition the team trained only 6 hours.
In a similar way, UAE’s team began strongly and were 8 points ahead of Fly Spot Poland after 3 rounds, beating Poland on each round. Then the Dubai team had a bad round 4 and since then Poland beat them on every round up to the final, going into the last round 4 points ahead. Russia made a valiant attempt, clawing 2 points back but the damage was done and the Bronze FAI medal went to Flyspot Poland, well done guys! This team has worked hard and entered many competitions to achieve this level, well done guys!
Further down the board there was an epic battle going on for fifth place between the Czech Republic, UK, Belgium, Norway and Switzerland, with the order changing constantly between these teams. In the end they finished in the above order but it was anyone’s game. Which of these teams will return to battle it out again at Clash of Champions?
