It’s been nearly a year since I have been at Fluid Wings, when I reported on the Prime, their first venture into skydiving. I have been informed, they have been very busy, going hard at creating, testing, building and still having fun while doing all these. Scott Roberts says ‘We only build Wings here, not Canopies” with a smile. Fluid Wings specialises at blurring the lines between parachuting, speed flying, and paragliding.

Fluid Wings has just finished designing the LOKI. Loki is a speed wing. It comes in either 12 or 14 meter sizes. It is a speed-flying canopy. However you can use it for speed riding as well. Because, it has tree riser trimmer system it has a wide range of flight modes! The Loki is available for orders here on the Fluid Wings website as part of the glider division, which is a part of Fluid Wings. Scott Robert smiles and gives me a stuff bag to open so I can finally see the canopy he was test jumping earlier. It is a curved/tri-taper leading edge with inflatable stabilizers, highly elliptical platform, aimed for experienced skydivers, who are accomplished at flying cross-braced wings. This canopy is designed to be in the same category a Performance Designs‘ new canopy Valkyrie and NZ Aerosports canopy’ Leia. The new design is called the HELIX.
Helix, is a seven-cell, and comes with impregnated blue Vectran lines. It has mini-ribs on the trailing edge, which is the latest big thing in the sport.

The guys at Fluid said that they have had so much fun creating Helix, which is the fastest, sharpest canopy Fluid Wings created so far. Helix can be used for everyday jumping – by experienced jumpers of course! They are working very hard to finalize the few details and are eager to put this babe on the market as soon as. Helix will be available with RDS (Removable Deployment System), if requested. Shane (Fluid’s lead test jumper) has been testing Helix in a real environment, by that I mean the swoop meets, for example, the FLCPA meets at Skydive City.
Crazy facts from Fluid Wings are that, If you order a canopy, you get personalized videos on each building stage until it’s in the stuff bag and been shipped… if you are lucky you might get singing and dancing on those personalized videos too, who knows?
