Make an Eclipse jump at Spaceland San Marcos
14 October 2024
Spoiler alert: In this article, “Ring of Fire” does not refer to the after-effects of eating spicy food. Now that we have that out of the way….
Ring of Fire
During an annular solar eclipse, the moon appears slightly smaller than the sun, so it can’t block the entire disk. The result is a “ring of fire”.
On Saturday, Oct. 14, at approximately 10:24 AM, the sky over Spaceland San Marcos will begin to darken as the moon moves in front of the sun to begin an “Annular Solar Eclipse”, AKA “Ring of Fire.” The entire eclipse, from the moon first appearing to take a bite out of the sun to when the sun is “whole again,” will take approx. 3 hours, 9 minutes.
Licensed jumpers as well as tandems will have the opportunity to make skydives during the entire eclipse cycle, with the “totality”portion of the eclipse lasting only 6 minutes!
In addition to the skydives, registered jumpers will receive solar glasses, T-shirts, commemorative stainless coffee thermoses, and vouchers for Tru Love Coffee (which will be on site for the event with a fancy coffee designed just for the event)!
