Travel
Everyone has their own preferred way of traveling with their skydiving gear. Personally when flying I put my rig in the hold baggage but I always take my hard helmet in my carry-on luggage. In the hold I feel it’s susceptible to knocks, having bags thrown on top of it and careless airline baggage handling. I like to keep my head protection with me, even though carrying it is a bit of a drag.
My problems are over! The Exo hard helmet case gives sufficient protection that I throw my hard hat in my hold bag with gay abandon. This lightens my load in airports so I can carry more champagne. The Exo also protects the hat in normal use in my rig-bag.
Manufacture
The case is strong and well made with good quality materials and high attention to detail. The rubber handle is nicely made so it is easy to carry, and has solid rings on each side so you can clip on to other bags. The double fastening zip looks sturdy. The outer hard shell has a soft interior lining, with a crossed tape to keep your helmet in place. It looks supercool, like an alien’s head. As Mr Ford, any color you like as long as it’s black.
Glove-box
I especially love the zip-up box that’s the perfect size for all those bits of crap you normally keep inside your helmet: gloves, ear plugs, lipstick, etc.
I usually wrap my buff around this stuff but when I wasn’t looking my gloves would sneak out and scratch the inside of my lens or cling to the fluffy lining.
Cost
The case seems very reasonably priced at $59.95. New helmets can be upwards of $300 to $400, this seems a small price to pay to protect your investment and your head. Most hard helmets are a one-impact device, as they are designed to fracture with a hard enough hit; thus absorbing the shock and protecting your head.
Who’s it for?
This unique hard case was designed by Square 1 for their own PhantomX helmet and it is advertised as also fitting the Cookie G3. Out of interest I tried all my old helmets… and found it’s a good size for my Cookie G2, Bonehead Mamba, Oxygn, Factory Diver, Z1 – in fact I couldn’t find a skydiving helmet that didn’t fit in it (my size is S or M).
