The video shows what could too easily have been a lethal incident… a jumper climbs out of the aeroplane with a floating reserve handle, or, more likely, dislodges the handle during climb-out. You can see the floating handle clearly just before his reserve deploys.
The force of the slipstream pulls the handle and the skydiver is almost immediately under his reserve. He and everyone in the aeroplane are lucky he didn’t hit the tail of the aircraft, that could have been fatal.
##The moral of the story ?
Always know where your handles are, even the smallest bump could be a tragedy.
- Check your handles when you put your kit on, and before every exit
- Be aware of and guard your handles when climbing out
Stay safe out there
