The 2016 WOWS Qualifier at Chicagoland Skydiving Center (CSC) wrapped up last weekend with podiums for Speed and Distance. 16 pilots faced off in a 4-cross race format, racing head-to-head in race lanes towards a finish line (speed) or a finish altitude floor (distance). Squirrel LLC, as title sponsor, has invested in the startup costs of the race series and is donating cash to each event for a real prize purse. $2,200 in prize money was given out at this qualifying event, with 6 pilots in total (podiums for both speed and distance) taking home prize money.
Congrats to Keith Forsyth who on the speed event flying his Squirrel C-RACE, and Alexey Galda who dominated all distance heats flying his CR+.
The WOWS event was really awesome! The pilots were stoked.
The Wide Open Wingsuit Series race format is unique in our sport, and enables wingsuit pilots to experience 4-cross racing with tangible finish lines. The registration is open (hence the name, Wide Open) and all qualified pilots can register to compete. (more detail and video here)
The WOWS organization say that the 2016 Championships will take place in Perris, CA, later this fall, and will be an all-out battle between the top finishers of the three qualifying events held in 2016. The next qualifier is at Skydive Kapowsin, in WA state USA.
